Joliet fire destroys two houses, turns one into rubble By FELIX SARVERFollowAug. 1, 2020 Two homes on Hickory Street in Joliet were destroyed in a fire, and one of the homes was reduced to rubble. At 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Joliet firefighters responded to a report of a house fire at 413 N. Hickory Street, Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said.Firefighters found the entire three-story home engulfed in flames when they arrived, Blaskey said.He said the fire was “elevated to a box alarm” and crews from Stations No. 1, 4, 5, 6 and 8 joined the effort to control the fire..The crews began a “defensive attack," Blaskey said. But because of the volume of fire and the radiant heat, both residences at 411 and 413 Hickory Street were destroyed.Three cars in the driveway between the homes were destroyed, and two cars on Hickory Street were damaged from the radiant heat.“No residents or fire personnel were injured during the fire,” Blaskey said.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
