The Democratic candidate for congress in the 16th District blasted the Republican COVID-19 relief bill, which she argued would help corporations "at the expense of working families."

Dani Brzozowski, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, pointed to the bill's strong liability protections for businesses and decreasing unemployment benefits in a news release.

She also argued the bill includes provisions "completely unrelated" to the COVID-19 pandemic, like $175 billion for a new Federal Bureau of Investigations building located near a Trump hotel and nearly $700 million for fighter jets.

“The Senate Republicans have decided to use this crisis to help their corporate donors, which is the exact opposite of what the American people need," Brzozowski said in the release. "We need expanded relief funds for families, and an extension of unemployment benefits. So many people are simply running out of time for relief.”

Brzozowski is challenging Kinzinger who was first elected to Congress in 2010.

Kinzinger easily won reelection in the heavily Republican district in 2018, defeating his opponent by a 59% to 41% margin.

The general election is set for Nov. 3.
