A 39-year-old Poplar Grove man is in critical condition after a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Thursday near Harvard, police said.
The crash occurred at 10:07 p.m. at the intersection of Lawrence and Perkins Roads in Chemung Township, according to a news release the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office sent Friday.
The sheriff’s office and Harvard Fire Department responded to the area, where a preliminary investigation determined that a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was driving south on Lawrence Road at the time of the crash. As the motorcycle approached Perkins Road, the driver went off the roadway and into a ditch for unknown reasons, according to the release.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was flown to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford with injuries that were life-threatening. He was not wearing a helmet, and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash, according to the release.
The investigation remains ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
