DIXON – Goodfellows of Lee County has found a building in Dixon it hopes to buy, and the agency will be having raffles to raise funds this summer.

The 108-year-old charitable organization began fundraising last year to buy or build its own building, and donations have totaled about $36,000 so far, President Clara Harris said.

They're hoping to raise $185,000 to buy a building they recently found that would meet their needs. The location is not being released at this time for the owner's privacy.

The first raffle will run from Wednesday to Aug. 15 for a chance to have Burn N' Bush play a 2-hour event within 50 miles of Dixon. Tickets cost $100; the winner will be chosen at 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Dixon riverfront pavilion.

The second raffle will run from Aug. 1 to Aug. 29; the prize is a large cooler filled with meat, alcohol and other items totaling around $250. Tickets cost $25, and the winner will be chosen at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the riverfront. People do not need to be present. to win.

Goodfellows is most known for helping hundreds of families during the holiday season with gifts and food vouchers, but it also gives away furniture, clothing, books and other household items to those in need.

The nonprofit also assists with many organizations and events including Shop with a Cop and Shop with a Sheriff, YWCA of the Sauk Valley, Teen Turf, Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way of Lee County, Dixon PADS Shelter, Dixon Food Pantry, as well as area schools and churches.

"Any time there's a family in need, we do what we can to help as many people as we can," Harris said. "We want to thank all the communities in Lee County for supporting us, and hope they can continue to help us help give a hands up to those in need."
