SAVANNA – A 5-year-old girl died Sunday after being pulled from the Plum River in Savanna, Police Chief Jeffrey Dorn said this afternoon.

The girl was reported missing, along with a 12-year-old and another 5-year-old, around 12:42 p.m. Sunday.

When Savanna police and fire, Carroll County deputies and EMS responded, they found one child and learned the other two might be in the river, police said in a news release.

Emergency responders found the second child clinging to a tree branch, unharmed.

The girl was found around 1:13 p.m. about a half-mile downstream.

She was flown to Javon Bea Hospital-Rockton, formerly Rockford Memorial Hospital, where she died around 4:15 p.m.

The children were related, but Dorn was not sure exactly how, he said.
