The First Congregational Church of Peru will welcome Pastor Charles B. Johnson as interim pastor. Johnson began his ministry with the church on May 24.
Charles and his wife, Rebecca, are from the North Chicago area. Rebecca is a registered nurse and has 18 years of experience in camping ministry and nonprofit work with a variety of youth organizations.
Charles has a master’s degree of education in divinity and a master’s in nonprofit administration. He is a member of the Evangelical Covenant organization.
“We expect Pastor Johnson to hold office hours on a part-time basis until their move in September to the church parsonage,” church officials said in a statement.
The church’s virtual worship service and pastor’s message can be viewed at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday at firstcongregationalperu.net/sermons.
With the COVID-19 restrictions easing in Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan, the church is working on a plan for in-church services and will announce when it plans to begin. Any needs can be addressed by calling the church office at 815-223-0722.
