Officers arrested two teens who pursued and shot at a person in Joliet, police said.

About 3 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 200 block of Herkimer Street after receiving a report of shots fired, Joliet police said in a news release.

The officers determined the victim in the incident was followed by a silver Nissan in the area of Cass and Scott streets, police said.

When the victim was at Herkimer Street, a male suspect exited the passenger seat of the Nissan and shot at the victim, police said. The suspect got back in the Nissan and was driven from the scene, police said.

The officers were provided descriptions of the Nissan, checked the area and determined “nothing appeared to be struck by gunfire,” police said.

Officers saw a silver Nissan in the area of East Washington Street and Iowa Avenue, police said. After conducting a traffic stop, the officers took Jesus Mendoza and Jada L. Boykin, both 18, into custody and recovered a firearm from the vehicle, police said.

Boykin drove the Nissan and Mendoza was the passenger, police said, and the officers determined that Mendoza shot at the victim.

Mendoza was booked into the Will County jail and his bond was set at $100,000. He was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Boykin was arrested and released on a recognizance bond, police said. Boykin was arrested on probable cause of unlawful use of a weapon. No formal charges were filed against Boykin, court records show.
