HENNEPIN — On Monday, March 23, Putnam County Board Chairman Steve Malavolti issued a disaster declaration to support the county response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Friday, March 27, the board will consider extending the duration of the declaration.

“While at this time Putnam County does not have a positive case of COVID-19, these declarations will allow for a unified and coordinated response to this crisis,” Malavolti said.

“These declarations enact the Putnam County Emergency Management’s emergency operations plan and unlock access to resources, equipment and personnel; while granting emergency powers that may be necessary to coordinate the county’s response,” he said.

The declaration came less than 12 hours after Bureau, Putnam, Marshall County Health Department announced the first case of COVID-19 in Marshall County.

Bureau and Putnam counties had not had confirmed cases as of Tuesday morning, with eight tests negative and one pending in Bureau County and one test that came up negative in Putnam County.

SPECIAL MEETING

The public can tune in to a special meeting Friday, March 27, during which the Putnam County Board will discuss and consider whether to extend a proclamation of a disaster in Putnam County due to the nationwide outbreak of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The meeting takes place at 2 p.m. Friday.
