A 61-year-old man got into an argument over personal property with family members at a Bolingbrook residence and threatened them with a BB gun, police said.

About 4 p.m. Saturday, officers went to the residence in the 300 block of Thistle Drive after receiving a report of a domestic violence call involving a gun, according to Bolingbrook police.

During the investigation of the incident, the officers were informed that James Lyles, who lives at the Thistle Drive residence, was arguing with a family member about personal property, police said.

Lyles shoved the family member before pointing the BB gun, police said. Lyles then pointed the BB gun at another family member while he was inside the residence, police said.

“The gun was recovered and was determined to be a BB gun,” police said.

Lyles was taken into custody and then transported to the Will County jail, police said. He faces misdemeanor domestic battery and assault charges.

During a court hearing Monday, a judge set Lyles' bond at $7,500, records show. He needs to post $750 for his release.

The judge also ordered Lyles to have no contact with the alleged victims in the case or the home on Thistle Drive, court records show.

Lyles remains in jail as of Wednesday evening.

A pretrial hearing for Lyles was scheduled for April 13.

On Jan. 27, 2012, Lyles was charged by Bolingbrook police with unlicensed driving, court records show. He pleaded guilty to the charge more than a month later and he was sentenced to six months of court supervision.
