Yorkville School District 115 Superintendent Dr. Timothy Shimp confirmed that the district-wide Fine Arts Festival scheduled for Saturday, March 14, has been canceled.

In an email to parents, Shimp said that the festival was canceled, "Due to COVID-19 and the corresponding recommendations to limit large social gatherings."

The cancellation is a precaution, Shimp said, as there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kendall County.

"However, as this event draws a large number of visitors and families from other communities, district leadership felt it would be in the best interests of our students, employees, and the general public to cancel the event," Shimp wrote.

To showcase the work of students, the district will create an electronic version of the artwork and musical performances that were planned for the festival. Once completed, the videos will be posted to the Yorkville Music website. A district-wide message will go out to notify families once all videos are posted.

Fine arts events scheduled for Thursday, March 12, will continue as planned, including the Yorkville High School Jazz Showcase, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the YHS Cafetorium, and the all-district sixth-grade choir rehearsal at 6 p.m. in the YHS gymnasium
