DIXON – A free National Weather Service severe weather spotter training course will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 1K04 at Sauk Valley Community College.

The training, which takes about an hour and a half, consists of a slide and video program that teaches about severe storm structure, and how to identify cloud features and other environmental clues to identify severe storms and tornadoes.

It's open to anyone interested in the weather, including the general public, fire, police and public works agencies.
