The DeKalb County Farm Bureau Young Leaders will hold an informational meeting on Feb. 27, to help explain crop number reporting, according to the DeKalb County Farm Bureau.

Mark Schleusener, Illinois State statistician for the USDA's National Agriculture Statistics Service, will give the presentation at the meeting, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau Center for Agriculture, 1350 W. Prairie Dr., Sycamore.

The meeting is open to all interested farmers and no registration is necessary.

According to the farm bureau's news release, crop statistics the USDA released stating the Midwest corn harvest was complete in late November were incorrect, and there were farmers throughout the midwest who needed at least December to finish their harvest.

The DeKalb County Farm Bureau questioned the numbers the USDA released after having discussions with state statisticians.

In January, the Illinois Farm Bureau recommended the American Farm Bureau Board to look into the National Agricultural Statistics Service reporting.
