Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is offering the following educational resources to the public for the month of March:
Babysitter's Training Course
A Babysitter’s Training Course will take place on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Conference Room 1 on the lower level at Morris Hospital, 150 W. High Street in Morris.
The Babysitter’s Training Course is designed for youths age 11 and older who are interested in acquiring the information and education needed for a safe babysitting experience. Topics include first aid, diapering and feeding techniques, bedtime strategies, safe and age-appropriate toys and games, and preparing for a babysitting interview. Participants should bring a doll to class.

Cancer Support Programs
The Radiation Therapy Center of Morris Hospital has announced its schedule of cancer support programs for March. All programs are free and will be held at the Radiation Therapy Center of Morris Hospital, 1600 West U.S. Route 6 in Morris.
The “I Can Cope” cancer support group for individuals with any type of cancer will be held Thursday, March 12, from 1-3 p.m. This month’s topic of discussion is finding and paying for treatment.
The Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer (SPOHNC) support group will meet Monday, March 16, from 2-3 p.m. SPOHNC is a patient-directed, self-help organization dedicated to meeting the emotional, physical and humanistic needs of people with oral and head and neck cancer and their caregivers. The SPOHNC Morris chapter meets monthly and is lead by a speech pathologist and registered nurse from Morris Hospital’s Radiation Therapy Center.
The Radiation Therapy Center also offers a free exercise class for individuals undergoing cancer treatment every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-9:30 a.m. Taught by Morris Hospital Wellness staff, the Low Intensity Functional Training exercise class includes stretching movements using elastic bands or light weights that can be performed while standing or sitting in a chair. Individuals of all ages are welcome regardless of where they received treatment.

Childbirth & Family Classes
All Childbirth and Family Classes will will be held in Classroom 1 on the lower level of Morris Hospital.
Introduction to Breastfeeding will be offered Monday, March 2, from 9-10 a.m. Taught by an obstetrical nurse/certified lactation consultant, the class focuses on the benefits of breastfeeding, pumping techniques, and tips for returning to work. Breastfeeding moms will also get advice to help solve problems related to breastfeeding. Nursing mothers are welcome to bring their infants. The class is free.
A Baby Care Basics class will be offered Wednesday, March 18, from 6-8 p.m. This class gives parents-to-be all the information they need to know to bring their baby home with confidence, including the latest information to ease parents into the basics of caring for their newborn. Through presentation and demonstrations, this class will include newborn appearance/activity, feeding, warning signs, and safety. The cost is $15 per couple.
An online version of the childbirth class is available through the Morris Hospital website. This unique online learning experience covers the birth process and medical procedures through instructive video clips, animations, and interactive games. Expecting moms will also get a sense of what labor is really like by watching several birth stories. Tours of the Family Birthing Suites at Morris Hospital can be scheduled upon request. In addition, Morris Hospital offers a free prenatal exercise class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:20 p.m. at the Morris Community YMCA, 320 Wauponsee St., Morris. According to the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, regular exercise during pregnancy benefits both mother and baby by reducing back pain, easing constipation, promoting healthy weight gain during pregnancy, improving overall general fitness, and helping mom lose baby weight after the baby is born.
