A former School District 300 teacher has been sentenced to 112 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child he knew, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Carlos Bedoya, 64, of Lake in the Hills, was convicted of eight counts of predatory criminal sexual assault in August. He is a former teacher’s aide and substitute teacher in District 300, as well as a youth soccer coach for the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township.

Bedoya sexually assaulted a victim younger than 13 years old. The contact occurred in Bedoya’s home, at Spring Hill Mall and at Golfview Elementary School in Carpentersville, where Bedoya was employed, according to the state’s attorney.

He received a sentence of 14 years for each of the eight counts, to be served consecutively. In addition to the prison term, Bedoya must register for life as a sex offender in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.

Charges against Bedoya remain pending in five cases with similar allegations involving 11 other victims. His next court appearance in those cases is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 15 in Courtroom 311 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

“Carlos Bedoya is a predator who seeks out vulnerable children,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said. “His criminal behavior is appalling, and his interest in kids is only for his own perverted gratification. He belongs in prison for a very long time so he can no longer be a threat to children.”
